This jumbo pencil craft for school-aged children will look great on a desk or make a great gift for a teacher or classmate! You can make it with materials you may already have at home, like cardboard tubes and construction paper.
Whether your child is getting ready for a new school year or just setting up a home craft area to make their own moving art, keeping their workspace neat and organized will help them know where to find all of their supplies. Talk with your child about how they want their workspace set up. Just like Arthur and Buster, everyone has their own ideas of how they want things organized. What works best for your child? One cute idea for a homework area is a pencil shaped pencil holder! Try this easy craft to sort and organize small items with your kindergartener or other big kid.

Directions
1
Wrap the yellow construction paper around the tube and cut it to size. Glue or tape the paper to the cardboard tube.

2
Next, you’ll want to make the eraser part of your giant pencil. Cut a 2 1/2'' x 10” strip of pink construction paper. Glue or tape the pink paper to one end of the tube. It’s okay if it overlaps the yellow but if you prefer, you can trim off some of the pink paper to fit.
3
Cut the light brown construction paper into a half circle that is 7 1/4'' diameter — or slightly bigger or smaller depending on your preference. This will be the curved point of your pencil, so you will want to shape it into a cone.
4
Color in the very tip of your cone, with a black marker, pencil or crayon to make the lead.

5
Glue or tape the pencil point onto the end of the tube without the eraser.

6
Add a strip of black construction paper between the pink and yellow parts of your pencil to finish decorating. Use your pencil to store school supplies!
