We ventured to Opal Daniels Memorial Park on one of the recent unseasonably warm days, and we had a great time exploring this favorite Takoma Park playground.
This playground has swings, a great big tube slide and a mini construction slide that we've seen at quite a few parks in our area. But, this park has a few unexpected attractions, too. Not only was there a set of monkey bars, but my kids were excited to try the metal rings circle that really test your gymnastic abilities. There was a sensory wall with all kinds of sounds, movements and textures, and a little storefront where my kids enjoyed playing restaurant.
After playing for a while in the main section of the park, we found our way to the clearing to overlooking Maple Avenue. This area has an old wooden bridge that looks leftover from before the playground was most recently renovated. The kids loved running across it, especially going up the steep incline. We also liked walking along the cut stumps that line the perimeter of the clearing, and playing in the wooded area right next to the park. But our shoes definitely got muddy as we climbed back out!
