Let me start out by saying that this playground has certainly seen better days. It is not super well-maintained, has chipping paint, the porthole bubbles are completely clouded over, and you'll find big muddy puddles if you come after the rain. However, this playground makes our list because you will not find many like it on your park adventures around the county.
This playground is located up the hill from the Long Branch Rec Center and the Long Branch Pool. In fact, it is built into a hill, with a slide that swirls down about a story below. My kid kept saying that she felt like she was on a submarine as she ran through the industrial-feeling tunnels and over the creaky bridge.
To me, this playground felt like stepping back into the style of my youth. You won't find super colorful plastic or special themed attractions; it's all steel and wood here. But there is a lot to climb, monkey bars, a very fast slide, and plenty of spaces in which to hide.
The park is also right near the bridge connecting the Long Branch Community Center to the Long Branch Library--and the Long Branch-Arliss Playground, too. The bridge is a work of art itself, a winding wood path with red rails and towering street lights. Visit this playground, and stay a while to explore the entire Long Branch area.
